I finally got off my butt and uploaded several images that are, I think, worth noting.
Twin sisters Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone are two of my favorite illustrators of all time and probably one of my earliest exposures to art. I had a book of fairy tales that they had illustrated, I also happened to own a phone book of nursery rhymes:
The Big Book of Mother Goose. It was illustrated by a woman named
Jesse Spicer Zerner (any info on her would be welcome, btw). The odd thing is, a LOT of the illustrations in TBBoMG bear more than a passing resemblance to the beautiful watercolors of the Grahame-Johnstone sisters.
See what I mean? Most of them are somewhat less than subtle, and the bulk of the images seem to have been lifted from the Dean Fairy Tale books.
Thoughts? Feelings?
